Problem Junctions

The increasing focus on transport outcomes, together with the Network Duty to tackle congestion, requires a problem solving approach to road networks. The potential for improvement often depends on what can be done at one or two problem junctions. A similar problem solving approach is needed for development planning where transport assessments require solutions at difficult junctions. We have extensive experience of tackling such problems.

Our work on problem junctions can include any of the following:

  • Congested Junctions. There can be wide area benefits in tackling the worst bottlenecks in a road network. We welcome all enquiries relating to this, and will always give an initial opinion on what might be possible.
  • Accidents at Junctions. As with congestion, accidents may be concentrated at one or two junctions. With our RoSPA expertise, we can examine STATS data and propose remedial measures.
  • Pedestrians and Cyclists. Provision for pedestrians and cyclists is often a major challenge at junctions. We have experience of all the options and have devised solutions at many difficult junctions.
  • Transport Assessments. Mitigating the impact of extra vehicle movements can seem impossible at certain junctions. We welcome the challenges that can arise, and are often able propose solutions.
  • Bus Priority. We have much experience in the modelling and design of bus priority at stand-alone junctions and within corridors. We have also worked extensively on tram priority.
